In einer warmen Sommernacht schweift der Blick schnell Mal Richtung Sternenhimmel ab. Die Faszination für das Funkeln der Sterne ist groß: als Betrachter von der entfernten Erde wird schnell klar, dass wir Menschen nur ein kleiner Punkt im Universum sind, der genauso wie ein Stern kurz aufleuchtet. Normalerweise kann das menschliche Auge in einer klaren Sommernacht 3000 bis 6000 Sterne beobachten. Die Konditionen dafür sind im Sommer immer am besten, sobald der Himmel nicht bewölkt ist, die Nacht bereits weiter fortgeschritten ist und es richtig dunkel ist. Die Lichtverschmutzung in Großstädten und in der Nähe von beleuchteten Straßen beeinflusst allerdings zusätzlich die Dunkelheit des Himmels. Auf dem Wasser und in der Wüste sieht man daher am meisten Sterne, da die Gefahr der Überbelichtung am kleinsten ist.

In der Außeninstallation soll genau dies vermieden werden: Tausend kleine Kunststoffschnipsel sollen über den Köpfen der Besucher funkeln. Dies verbindet den Zeitgeist unserer heutigen Gesellschaft mit dem atmosphärischen Gedanken einer Sommernacht, die durch die Lichtverschmutzung immer seltener wird.

On a warm summer night, our attention quickly drifts towards the starry sky. The fascination for the twinkling of the stars is great: as an observer from the distant Earth, it quickly becomes clear that the human race is only a small dot in the universe that shines briefly just like a star. Normally, the human eye can observe 3000 to 6000 stars on a clear summer night. The conditions for this are always best in summer, as soon as the sky is not cloudy, the night has already progressed and everything is really dark. However, light pollution in large cities and near illuminated streets additionally affects the darkness of the sky. On the water and in the desert, therefore, you can see the most stars, as the danger of overexposure is the smallest.

In the outdoor installation, this is exactly what is to be avoided: A thousand small plastic snippets are to twinkle above the heads of the visitors. This combines the spirit of our time in today's society with the atmospheric idea of a summer night, which is becoming increasingly rare due to light pollution.
